History of Villa di Modolo

According to the history the Miari family originate from the Vicenza Area, born town of the ancestors in the XI century. The first historiographer proof on the surname origin is referred to Andrea da Miaro that was on charge like captain in Feltre in 1110.
Over the years the family gave birth to ecclesiastics, knights, lowers, historians and thinkers.

In the 1248 when Ezzelino da Romano tried to attack the castle and the town of Belluno Alessandro Miari appeared among the town protectors;
In the 1391 Andrea Miari got as a gift the Zumelle Castle from Gian Galeazzo Visconti to thanks him for the services obtained; in the 1404 was Bartolomeo Miari to beat in aid to Venice and to plaint the banner of San Marco on the drawbridge of Belluno Castle; in the same period the religious Clemente Miari starts writing the chronicle diaries of the Belluno area.
In the 1412 Giovan Antonio Miari had been decorated with the title of Count from the Emperor Sigismondo from Hungary.

In 1617 Benedetto Miari introduced the wheat growing in the Belluno area,
Dates back to the 1644 the oldest parts of the Villa, ultimate in 1806 becoming one of the most important models of Venetian Villas.
In 1815 Antonio Miari, chevalier of Malta, became minister of his order at the Congress of Vienna, and subsequently chamberlain of the emperor; in the same year Andrea Miari became a member of the Austrian order of the Iron Crown.
In 1885 born Francesco Miari (that add the surname Fulcis in 1891 after the death of his uncle Falco de’ Fulcis) esteemed teacher of astronomy at Padua University. Thanks to him we already got few sundials on the façade of the Church and on the Modolo Villa storage room.
During the First World War was settled there the field hospital earlier of German soldiers(thanks to them for raids and structural damages already observable) than of the Italian Army.

Between the 1920 and the 1940 Modolo Village was completely rebuilt thanks to modern techniques suggested by the engineer Miari Fulcis.
Since the end of the 40’s the Count Giacomo Miari Fulcis (1928-2003) succeeded to his father Francesco predecease, adopted innovative techniques in the farm field, introducing since the earlier 50’s the automatic milking producing butter and cheese;
In 1958 installed the first dehydration system of alfalfa and in the 70’s developed an important British stud farm.
In the 90’s the Farm had the most important wild breeding centre ground of organic pig, know still today like an example.
